Morning Rituals

Over the years I've been slowly building a morning routine for myself to help start my day on a positive note. It took some tweaking and tinkering to figure out what works for me. I think I'm finally figuring it out.

Starting the day off right is so important. Even if the day has some bumps along the way (as it inevitably will), having a solid morning ritual helps you move past and through those shitty times. Personally, on the days that I don't commit to my morning ritual, I find that I'm more tired, more irritable and a lot less productive.

My morning ritual is simple. It's got the obvious which is get up, pee, brush my teeth and get dressed and let's be honest, that morning pee is a great feeling! There are three things that are a must for me:

  1. Lemon Water

  2. Meditation/Prayer

  3. Glowing Green Smoothie

None of this is new information (except maybe the Glowing Green Smoothie, if you haven't heard of it). We've all heard/read about the importance of meditation and many of us may already be practising it (good for you I say!). There are still many more who may or may not know it's good for them or are still trying to figure out when and how to incorporate into their day. Up until now, I was one of those people.

I've found that meditation works best for me when it's the first thing I do. Like many things in life, we tend to over complicate meditation (again I was one of those people). Really it's just mindful breathing at it's most basic level. We focus on our breath in order to be fully present in the moment. The cool part of meditation is that we can train our minds and get control over our thoughts and emotions. Which for me seemed like an impossible task. I'm slowly starting to feel the benefits of meditation and learning to be more present through out the day. I'm late to the game I'm sure, but I have a feeling many of us are.

The Glowing Green Smoothie is another morning ritual staple for me. My best friend suggested I read Kimberly Snyder's Beauty Detox in which she talks about the health benefits of the GGS. I recommend it if you're into nutrition. If you're not that's fine too, no need to pressure yourself. Why do I drink the smoothie? Honestly, because I've never been a breakfast person so this is a great substitute for me. It also guarantees I've got some sort of fruit and vegetable serving into my body for the day... aaaaand it helps me poop. She also talks about the benefits of lemon water which is also part of my ritual. I drink it because I want something warm and I don't like tea or coffee... aaaaand it helps me poop. Because let's be honest, after 30 it becomes more about what helps you poop rather than what helps you lose weight.

So there you have it, my mourning ritual. Even though you didn't ask for it and probably don't care, I hope that you still get something out of it.

You're welcome.
